Lexus Under Your Tree
The holidays always brings us a new round of Lexus commercials where some lucky soul gets a new RX350 with a huge red bow on it from their model wife/husband. I for one have never purchased nor recieved a car/truck/motorcycle for Christmas. I have known a few parents that purchase small dirt bikes and atvs for their kids, but that is the extent of my personal experience with these types of gifts. Does gift giving on this level really happen to us "normal" people?
A car is typically the second largest purchase a person will make in their lifetime, after a house (third if you count an engagement ring and the costs incurred with that decision.) As we have discussed plenty of times, this means the decision to make this purchase is an extremely important one and should not be taken lightly. These year-end sales events can be a bit of a distraction to people. The airwaves are filled with car commercials from the manufacturers telling you this is the time to buy and for some it may be.
Incentives from the manufacturer are one factor in the price of new cars, but there are others including; inventory levels, dealer goals both reached and close to being reached, individual sales persons goals and the general health of the dealership in general. There is a push at the end of the year to finish up with strong sales, so deals are out there to be had on new vehicles, but caution still needs to be practiced.
Used vehicles are an entirely different story here in MN. Due to winter snows, dealers typically try to decrease inventory during the worst weather months. That can lead to slightly higher pricing. Again, the drive to make a deal to finish up the year will off-set that at times.
